Why it is in the best interest of Putnam residents that
Electric Car Charging Stations (ECCS) be allowed to be installed in Putnam Village?
First off, there has to be a plan that residents want to support. Here is a top-level installation plan that I believe 2/3’s of
the residents would agree on.
- For the maximum convenience for residents, the
ECCS would be located at the requesting resident’s reserved parking spot.
- The requesting resident would own the ECCS and be responsible for
all costs associated with the installation, liable for any damages that result from
the installation, all costs for maintenance and repair of the station and for
all costs for the electricity consumed. The Station would be connected into his/hers basement electrical panel and would include an on/off switch to prevent unauthorized use.
- With the resident bearing all costs associated
with the ECCS installation, there would only be a minimal one-year impact on
the Putnam Budget and our monthly condo fees. Those one-time start-up costs would
be required to fund an Engineering Company contract to provide an “Installation
Requirements” document and some legal fees required to amend the “Declaration”
as well as a legal document that a resident would have to sign stipulating his/her responsibilities. All total, I’d realistically estimate that these one-time start-up
costs would be around $5000 and these costs would necessarily have to be shared by
all residents. In an overall yearly budget these costs are less than 1% of the budget and would only impact one year's budget.
- The comprehensive “Installation Requirements”
document would be given to any resident requesting the installation of an ECCS
at his/her reserved parking spot and would include all Federal, State, Township,
Council and legal requirements. With
that information, the resident would be able to shop around for the installation
contractor of his/her choice.
What are the benefits of allowing ECCS installations for all of our residents?
- It gives residents more flexibility in the
type of car they can buy.
- Increases the desirability and value of Putnam
Village Townhouses
- Increases the pool of homebuyers that may want
to live in Putnam Village and have or want to buy an electric car.
- Increases the value of a home with an installed
charging station
- Is congruent with the national trend toward
reducing Green House emissions.
